Can someone please tell me why I can't find a reliable plumber to fix my kitchen tap ?
It just refuses to shut off so since then there has been a constant flow of the precious H2O going down the drain.
It was on Monday last that I thumbed through the yellow pages confident that I could get a plumber to attend to my needs immediately.
The first thing I noticed was that most of the companies offering domestic plumbing services were based outside of San Fernando. Yaaaay!!!!!!! Good for me !!!!
Ok. My eyes fell upon a company, which from the address in the phone book, was located about five minutes driving distance away from where I live. Good !
I dialled the number and asked the pleasant female voice on the other end if they do home visits. I breathed a sigh of relief when she replied in the affirmative. I told her what the problem was and she promised to have a plumber drop by soon.
I told her to contact me on my mobile phone when the plumber was ready to visit since I may be at work and would need some notice so I can be there when he arrives.
Sometime later that day I get a call from Miss Pleasant telling me that the plumber is outside my door and not seeing anyone. DUH!!!! How the hell am I supposed to pay you if I am at home whole day ?
EH?????
Ok!!! I told her to ask the guy to remain there and I would meet with him in a few minutes.
Arrived at home - NO ONE IS THERE. I call Miss Pleasant who tells me she would call the guy to find out where he is.
He arrives.......with another plumber in tow and checks the tap. He tells me it needs to be replaced (as if I didn't know) but that he could not do it right away since they had no "material" with them.
They promised quite sincerely to return the following day.
Miss Pleasant calls very early as requested to inform me that the plumber would be at my apartment shortly.
Who tell me to ask the woman for an estimate on the job ? Who tell me do dat ?
She tells me that she did not have an estimate since her boss, whoever he is, was not there.
"Please try to get an estimate for me before the plumber gets to my home," I suggested.
Hours go by.
"Hi (name called) any word from your boss ?"
She tells me no.....because she had been trying to contact him for the entire time.
The following day I call. No luck with the estimate.
A week passes and I call expressing my disappointment with their lack of interest.
I told her any compnay worth its salt would have kept in contact with me and let me know what was happening.
Now picture this possible scenario! Plumber arrives and fixes pipe (minus estimate). I get a bill saying..........$5000 (just to be absurd). Am I not bound to pay ?
These people feel I am a backside hole.
I tell de damn woman don't bother. Because I dunno what the hell will happen if I have a problem with the job and want it rectified.
So at the end of this long story. I am still in need of a plumber.
In the meantime, as Machel Montano sang some years ago, "Water Flowing". HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
